See Manu on Saturday at 17:15 on the Main Stage
Manu Katché is a renowned French drummer and composer, celebrated for his unique style and versatility. He grew up in the eastern suburbs of Paris and began his musical journey on the piano before moving on to classical percussion and eventually to the drums, which would become his instrument of choice.
Manu rose to prominence in the 1980s through collaborations with renowned artists such as Peter Gabriel, with whom he recorded the album « So » and the following four albums, performing alongside him on stage ever since — with a new album currently in the works. His subtle and innovative drumming quickly attracted attention, taking him onto the international stage. Beyond Peter Gabriel, he has collaborated with many legendary musicians, including Sting, Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits, Tears for Fears, Jeff Beck and Tracy Chapman. In France, he has also been the inseparable musical partner of Michel Jonasz, whom he has accompanied throughout his career.
Alongside these collaborations, Manu has developed a prolific solo career. He has released several albums under his own name, exploring a wide range of genres from jazz to rock. His compositions reflect both his musicianship and his taste for sonic experimentation. On his tenth album, « The ScOpe », Manu brings together the roots of groove with the modernity of machines. A sensual and celestial electronic album, at times frenetic, it marks a chapter of rupture — or perhaps continuation — of pleasure and renewal.
Known for his sense of rhythm and distinctive groove, Manu has also made his mark on French television as a judge on the popular talent show « Nouvelle Star », as well as through the outstanding Arte TV programme « One Shot Not », an original concept he developed by inviting some of the world’s greatest artists alongside remarkable international discoveries.
As an internationally respected and highly influential artist, Manu continues to inspire countless drummers and musicians around the world, sharing his passion and his exceptional approach to music.
With such an extraordinary career behind him, Manu now wishes to devote himself to sharing his knowledge and experience by creating the « KATCHÉ INSTITUTE » — the international training programme he has always dreamed of. It is designed to help professional drummers and serious amateurs unlock their creativity while exploring their own personal sound in depth.
A highly private programme, featuring weeks of « Iconic Sessions© » produced in some of the world’s greatest cities, allowing everyone to live their passion to the fullest — becoming a Pro… with the Pros!
