Whisper Drums Join Europe Drum Show 2026

The Europe Drum Show is thrilled to welcome Whisper Drums to this year’s event.

Tobias Spirig had the idea of developing quiet drums. He has been teaching drums for over 20 years and has already participated in many information days and instrument performances at the music school.

Every drum teacher will know the situation: an enthusiastic child with shining eyes and next to it the parents with a frown: “Is that quiet?!?”. That was the basic idea. A “normal” drum kit that offers all the possibilities to practice and is still quieter. WhisperDRUMS are about 20 decibels quieter than conventional sets. This corresponds roughly to the volume reduction of hearing plugs.

A WhisperDRUM can be used almost anywhere where a conventional set is too loud, or where it would be desirable to have something quieter. Not only at home practice, teach etc. is possible. WhisperDRUMS are also ideal in schools, rehearsal rooms and smaller concert halls.

The noise itself is usually not the problem — it’s the volume that makes the difference. That’s why we set ourselves the goal of making the (music) world a little quieter. Our drumheads and drums are about 20 decibels quieter than a “normal” drum kit.

Specifically, this allows you to:

• practice, rehearse, and teach without hearing protection
• teach in a school without disturbing regular school activities
• practice at home without bothering the neighbors
• accompany a choir without volume issues
• play truly “unplugged,” meaning with unamplified instruments and vocals
• play properly even in small venues while still complying with noise regulations

IDEA & DEVELOPMENT

APPLICATIONS

• With WhisperDRUMS, you can practice at a comfortable volume without the need for elaborate soundproofing measures.
• Teaching without earplugs. Playing along with backing tracks no longer requires a medium-sized PA system.
• Schools: even less experienced players can accompany a school choir at a pleasant volume using WhisperDRUMS.
• Band rehearsals no longer turn into volume competitions. Guitarists’ excuses that they have to match the drummer’s volume no longer work…
• For very small performances, accompaniment can be completely unplugged. The volume level is comparable to that of a piano, acoustic guitar, and vocals. Despite the 20-decibel reduction, the final result naturally still depends on the drummer’s playing style!
• In smaller venues, rock bands are often too loud. The drum kit blasts off the stage, and the sound engineer can only try to adjust the rest of the band. WhisperDRUMS can also be miked and integrated into the overall sound, allowing the sound engineer to work properly with the mix.

Up to a certain size and volume, this works very well. The quieter the stage sound, the better the results. Users of in-ear monitoring systems have a clear advantage.

CONCLUSION

Drummers who normally play with hearing protection are generally enthusiastic about WhisperDRUMS — as are fellow musicians who wear ear protection. With WhisperDRUMS, hearing protection can be dispensed with, and sound quality improves as a result.
