See Steve on Sunday at 15:45 on the Main Stage
Steve Jordan, Emmy and multiple Grammy winner, is one of the most in-demand professional session drummers in the world, known for his deep pocket, unmistakable groove, and versatility across genres. Over the years, he has recorded and performed with legendary artists such as The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Robert Cray, and Keith Richards.
But Jordan is far more than just a drummer. In addition to his skills as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and performer whose musical influence spans funk, soul, blues, and rock, Steve has his own band, The Verbs and is the Artistic Director for The Jazz Foundation of America. His live performance résumé is just as impressive. He has been part of the house bands for iconic television programs such as Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with David Letterman. He has also performed with The Blues Brothers, Eric Clapton, and has toured extensively with The Rolling Stones, eventually becoming their touring drummer following Charlie Watts’ passing.
Steve Jordan’s signature speciality is groove drumming. Few drummers command funk and soul rhythms with his level of feel, restraint, and authority. His instructional video, The Groove Is Here, has inspired thousands of aspiring drummers worldwide, emphasising pocket, taste, and musicality over flash.
Given his decades-long career, genre-crossing versatility, and ability to elevate every artist he plays with, it’s no surprise that Steve Jordan remains one of the most respected and sought-after drummers in modern music history.
