See Greyson on Saturday at 15:45 on the Main Stage
Greyson Nekrutman is a highly versatile and dynamic 23-year-old American drummer from Long Island, New York, who has captivated a global audience with his explosive talent and vast musical knowledge. He first burst onto the international music scene while still a teenager, leveraging his social media presence to rapidly achieve recognition.
Now nearing a million Instagram followers, Greyson became widely known for his rejuvenation of Big Band and Swing drumming styles reminiscent of the Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman eras. He gained millions of viewers by posting highly energetic, note-for-note video transcriptions of iconic drummers such as Buddy Rich, Sonny Payne, and Louis Bellson. He recognised that a musical gap largely vacant for decades existed, and his distinctive technique quickly filled that void.
Greyson’s affinity for the drums began early. Surrounded by music at home, he started formal lessons at age four. While childhood was challenging due to a serious illness at age 10 that frequently disrupted his schooling, he transformed the negative experience into a positive, calling the drums his “salvation.” He immersed himself in study, developing a tireless work ethic. When called a prodigy, Greyson is quick to correct, stating, “I was never born a talented drummer, what I believe I am talented at is working extremely hard,” a testament to his steadfast commitment and devotion to his craft.
Greyson’s online presence garnered attention leading to a diverse and high-profile professional career. He has performed or recorded with William DuVall (Alice in Chains), Billy Howerdel (A Perfect Circle), and the legendary DJ Premier “The Badder Band” at high-profile events including Paris Fashion Week and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Drumeo, Sweetwater as well as countless events around the world.
In 2023, demonstrating incredible versatility, Greyson executed a nearly 360-degree turn in genres by joining cross over thrash legends Suicidal Tendencies, which took him on his first world tour. This momentum continued into February 2024, when he was invited to join the iconic heavy metal band Sepultura for their “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell tour, where he is currently a member.
Greyson is also currently honoured to be performing the music of the Academy Award-winning movie “Whiplash” in a touring production called “Whiplash in Concert,” under the direction of composer and conductor Justin Hurwitz. Between tours with Sepultura and the concert series, he conducts clinics, master classes, and drum festivals worldwide.
